LASIK FAQs
Peninsula Laser Eye Medical Group specializes in LASIK surgery. At our Mountain View area center, each LASIK doctor is committed to high-quality, personal care and effective vision correction treatments.
How can LASIK correct my vision?
During the LASIK procedure at our Mountain View area center, a skilled LASIK doctor surgically lifts a thin flap of the cornea, permitting the exposed inner surface to be treated. Using an excimer laser, the LASIK doctor alters the cornea’s curvature to correct the patient’s specific refractive errors.
How do I select a LASIK doctor?
When selecting a LASIK doctor, the most important things to consider are experience, technology, safety, and comfort. At Peninsula Laser Eye Medical Group, each of our LASIK doctors is committed to providing the highest-quality care. Our experienced surgeons, Dr. Daniel Beers and Dr. Jeffrey Liu, meet personally with each patient to perform thorough pre-operative testing and ensure maximum comfort and safety throughout treatment. We also utilize advanced wavefront technology to personalize your vision correction procedure, and our doctors perform all follow-up care to maximize your recovery and visual outcomes.
Drs. Beers and Liu have completed thousands of successful procedures over the past 15 years, and have been extensively involved with teaching ophthalmology residents at Stanford University and UC Irvine, respectively. They both have given lectures to other physicians at the Academy of Ophthalmology and Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. Safety and excellent visual outcomes have always been our top priority.
What can I expect following LASIK treatment?
Following LASIK surgery, the doctor repositions the corneal flap. The corneal tissue has exceptional bonding properties that allow effective healing without the use of stitches. For the next 24 hours, patients may experience minimal (if any) discomfort and blurred vision. We will check your eyes the day after LASIK eye surgery and again approximately one week later. Most patients are comfortable and resume normal activities within only a few days.
Why should I consider LASIK to correct my vision?
LASIK offers many patients the potential of a virtually painless procedure, rapid visual recovery, and reduced post-operative care (as compared to other refractive treatments). Our patients report dramatic and immediate improvement in their vision following LASIK eye surgery.
What can I expect on the day of LASIK treatment?
Allow approximately one hour for the entire LASIK eye surgery process. Sixty minutes before LASIK eye surgery, most patients take a small dose of oral Valium at our office in Mountain View. A LASIK doctor will recheck your eyes and confirm measurements prior to the procedure. Next, a nurse or medical assistant will administer a series of drops to numb your eye and prevent infection. You are then comfortably positioned in a recliner-type chair in our laser suite. The LASIK doctor then surgically lifts a thin corneal flap and the laser correction is performed. The treatment lasts approximately 30 to 60 seconds, after which the corneal flap is repositioned.
Following your procedure, you will receive a kit containing instructions and eye drops you will use for several days. You should arrange for someone else to drive you home on the day of the procedure, but most patients can drive themselves to their first day post-operative LASIK visit.
What are the advantages of LASIK eye surgery?
LASIK eye surgery has a number of advantages over other vision correction options, including:
- Fast healing time
- Rapid recovery of vision
- Less discomfort following surgery
- Treats a wide range of refractive errors for enhanced vision
During your LASIK consultation you will have the opportunity to ask your surgeon unlimited questions about your eye health and the risks and benefits of LASIK.
What about LASIK surgery risks?
