Konan Specular Microscopy

Konan Specular Microscopy is a device we use to measure the density of corneal endothelial cells that are important in maintaining corneal clarity and successful contact lens wear. This procedure is a excellent way to assess damage due to extended contact lens wear, eye surgery and the general aging process – unobtainable with biomicroscopy and corneal topography.  Corneal endothelial cells are on the back surface of the cornea and cannot be replaced.  For this reason, it is important to know if any have been lost.  We are one of the few offices in the Bay Area to have this instrument to test your eyes.

It is an effective tool to screen for corneal disease and possible damage from contact lens use.
